Manual operations are carried out at the preliminary stage. They often serve as a preparatory process before CNC machining. This especially applies to the removal of gating systems, which can be carried out manually or using hydraulic presses equipped with trimming dies. This type of processing mainly uses either handheld locksmith tools or simple mechanical tools.

This type of processing primarily includes: removal of gating and risers, grinding, sawing, deburring of holes and flash, manual drilling, and threading.
The scope of finishing, including manual operations, depends on the client’s requirements concerning the casting’s surface condition. Sometimes, removing gating and risers is sufficient; in other cases, a higher number of finishing steps may be required.
Usually, hand tools such as files, punches, or scrapers are used, as well as mechanical tools like drills or bench threaders.
Manual thread tapping can be done for small batches of castings. For larger batches, mechanical bench tapping machines are used.
